A yoga studio I co-founded and operated in Historic Folsom, California
I co-founded GoTa Yoga with Corey Mitchell on Sutter Street in Historic Folsom. I was the studio’s primary teacher and led much of the day to day work around teaching and programming, including hiring and managing additional teachers and staff.
GoTa Yoga gave me an early experience of creating more than classes. I was helping shape a physical space, a teaching community, and the many details that influenced what people experienced when they walked through the door.
In 2013, GoTa Yoga was nominated by Sacramento News & Review for Best Yoga Spot in the greater Folsom area.

Creating the Space
GoTa Yoga began as a physical space as much as a teaching project. I was involved in building out the studio and shaping how the practice room, reception area, and other parts of the space came together.
I cared about what people experienced before and after class as well as during it. The studio needed to function, but I also wanted it to feel like a place people could settle into, practice, and return to.
Teaching and Community
I taught much of the schedule at GoTa Yoga and hired and managed the other teachers and staff.
Running GoTa Yoga meant being responsible for teaching, staffing, programming, relationships, and the day-to-day decisions involved in operating the studio. I learned that what people experienced there was shaped by much more than the class itself. Communication, consistency, follow through, and care for the space all mattered.

What Stayed With Me
GoTa Yoga was one of my earliest experiences of being responsible for more than teaching. I was helping shape the space, the team, and how the studio functioned day to day.
What stayed with me was how much people experience the conditions around a practice, not only the practice itself. Consistency, care, clear communication, and follow through shape how dependable a space feels and what people learn they can expect.
That experience continues to inform how I think about creating conditions for practice, learning, and relationship.
